We would like to welcome a new recruit to the Sea Watch team, Clare Boardman, who has recently been appointed as Sea Watch Regional Coordinator for North and North-east Scotland!
Hi, I’m Clare, I live in a little village called Brough, near Thurso, in Caithness.
From a very young age I had always wanted to work with animal in one way or another.
When I left school I worked as a Trainee Ranger in the Kruger National Park in South Africa, a bit different to cetaceans.
I then moved into a career working in horse racing. I have managed stud farms in South Africa and in the UK. My main focus was the foaling of mares, bringing these four-legged lovelies into the world. I have foaled approximately 800 foals in my time on stud farms which began in 2002 and ended in 2011.
I have also been involved in looking after race horses on a racing yard and have worked as a equine veterinary nurse for about 4 years.
My love for all cetaceans has never left my mind but I have never really had the opportunity to work with them. Now I am trying to get involved as much as I can. I am part of the Caithness & Sutherland British Divers Marine Life Rescue Team; I am also hoping to become part of the SMASS team here in Scotland.
I volunteer for the Sea Watch Foundation, Marine Conservation Society and help out on the EcoPreds Project in conjunction with St. Andrews University.
I also support a charity very close to my heart in South Africa, called Blankets for Baby Rhinos.
I can’t wait to be Regional Coordinator for the North of Scotland.
