On the 27th, 28th and 29th August the Sea Watch Foundation was visited by children from Ystrad Mynach Boys and Girls Club, BAD Bikes and Wyndham Boys and Girls Club. Each day started off in Llangranog with Sightings Officer, Danielle Gibas, introducing marine mammals and explaining about the Sea Watch Foundation. Lunch was then followed by some species identification training with an ID quiz and games with Sea Watch interns that taught the children how to identify individual dolphins, count dolphins and listen to cetaceans. The group then left the classroom behind and headed over to New Quay for the afternoon to let off some steam. The children got to put their new skills to the test by doing a practice land survey and were lucky enough to see dolphins from the pier! Finally each group got the chance to go out to sea on the Ermol V for some cetacean spotting. Weather conditions changed day by day, with BAD bikes enjoying a relaxing boat trip in the sun and Wyndham Boys and Girls experiencing a rollercoaster ride over the waves, but all groups thoroughly enjoyed their trip and managed to see Bottlenose Dolphins in the wild. The day ended back on shore where certificates were presented and the children headed back home, declaring that they’d see us again soon!
Overall it was a great success and we hope that the children enjoyed it as much as we did!
