Beth and Megan set up the stall ready for a day of public awareness activities.
New Quay Pier was awash with activity on Saturday, as our interns set out to spread news of the important work we do here at Sea Watch. Armed with colouring pencils and cuddly toys, they chatted with the public about the cetaceans of the UK, their conservation and protecting the oceans they live in.
Janne and Freke from Holland were surprised to learn that we have dolphins here in the UK, especially in New Quay where they were on holiday!
Many people are surprised when they learn that whales and dolphins live around the UK. There are 15 species of cetceans found around British and Irish waters, most commonly the Bottlenose dolphin, Harbour porpoise and Minke Whale. However people are most surprised when they hear Sea Watch Volunteers in Norfolk occasionally spot Humpback Whales! One was spotted off the coast of Norfolk in November 2014!
Sophie Higgs helped us spot dolphins from the pier.
Megan, our Public Awareness and Outreach Officer, chats to Aaron, teaching him all about our Land Watch. He even filled in his own special Land Watch form!
