The week of National Whale and Dolphin watch is drawing to a close, but the celebrations continue…
Yesterday morning saw a sand sculpture competition take place on DolauBeach in new Quay, Ceredigion. Visiting families and passers by were invited to join in, with a small prize awarded to everyone who joined in the fun, and lots of goodies for one lucky winner. Some of our Sea Watch Interns decided to start things off by ambitiously creating a sculpture of our logo.
It didn’t take long for the competition to start heating up, with some amazing sculptures being produced including; turtles, sharks (complete with shell teeth!), crocodiles, a car, a boat, crabs and a castle guarded by crocodiles.

We loved the creative use of natural materials to make this turtle!

The competition was judged by local shop owner Kate from Pasty Pasty, and MP for Ceredigion Mark Williams. After much conferring, they awarded first prize to Gwilliam MacDonald for his amazing crab sand sculpture! Well done Gwilliam.

The best prize of all though had to be the appearance of a mother and calf pair close to New Quay pier, giving everyone on Dolau Beach a lovely view.
