This week Sea Watch visited Aberaeron Comprehensive to teach Year 8’s about local cetaceans. This included an introduction to cetaceans and the key characteristics of the different groups of cetaceans and what they feed on. Year 8 have recently been learning about food webs so had the chance to study some real life examples about cetaceans. Despite being top predators the different species feed on very different prey, below you can see some of the food webs the children created to show these interactions. We finished each session with a review of the species that can be seen in the area and how to identify them as well as discussing what threatens them and how we can help to protect them. The children had lots of interesting questions and seemed to enjoy the session as much as we did!
