Orca Watch Live Event – Saturday 29th May from 7:30pm
You can now book tickets for our evening of talks to launch Orca Watch 2021. Learn all about this iconic species from two different speakers and discover what will be happening throughout the following week as our local volunteers and observers track cetacean movements on the coast of northern Scotland.

Meet the team behind Orca Watch and learn what will be happening during Orca Watch week
Learn all about that iconic animal, the killer whale, in a presentation by our Sea Watch Ambassador, Robin Petch
And welcome our keynote speaker, Dr Filipa Samarra, who will share with us her work on orca in Iceland
The virtual doors will open at 7.20pm, for a prompt start at 7.30pm
At the launch event, all ticket-holders will be entered into a prize draw. First prize – a pair of Opticron binoculars. Second prize – a year’s membership of Sea Watch. Third prize – £15 off the cost of Sea Watch’s Cetacean Survey Training Course.
About Orca Watch
In pre-covid times, Orca Watch was a ten-day event, usually based in John O’Groats but with watches taking place all around Caithness and North Sutherland, and around the Orkney and Shetland Isles. Whilst the focus has always been on the movements of the Icelandic, Norwegian and more local orca that visit the coast at this time of year, sightings of other species are of course also recorded. This year, due to Covid-19, we are going online, bringing the excitement of Orca Watch to your home.
During the week – 29th May to 6th June – a small pool of local, experienced volunteers will be looking out for whales, dolphins and porpoise in the area, including killer whale. Each evening, from 31st May, we will be online, live, to share what has been seen and continue the conversation about all things orca. We will be publishing these events on Eventbrite shortly.
