Stoer Lighthouse, Assynt lived up to its reputation this weekend by providing lucky observers with five hours of cetacean entertainment.
Over 300 common dolphins were observed feeding offshore accompanied by 150 gannets. As if this wasn’t enough to please the crowds, they were joined by a lone humpback whale.
Regular observers David and Avril Haines described the sight:
The humpback whale was feeding along with c300 common dolphins. It shallow dived and blew approximately every minute, sometimes quicker sometimes longer. It showed its tail four times but the best was the last when its tail was really high out of the water.
Leigh Sedgley, owner of the “Living the Dream” snack van also witnessed the animals.
Common dolphins, humpback whale and added to that, porpoise and a basking shark. Wonderful!
