Do you want to hear more about the 2020 National Whale and Dolphin Watch results? Then make sure you join the event below to hear the Sea Watch Foundation’s Sightings Officer, Dr Chiara Giulia Bertulli, provide an update on the results as part of this year’s ERIC North East and Tees Valley Wildlife Recorders conference.
The talk takes place on Tuesday 24th November at 18:00 and is part of the month long conference which has seen ERIC North East and Tees Valley Wildlife Recorders team up to bring us one big annual conference and to celebrate ERICS’s 10th Birthday.
This year’s NWDW was a little different due to Covid-19, but nevertheless, over 30 collaborating organisations and hundreds of volunteer observers safely took part. Sightings were recorded from 185 land locations and from 49 vessels across the UK and there were over 1,200 cetacean sightings with 9 different cetacean species seen. A few of the key sightings from this year included humpback whales feeding, leaping Risso’s dolphins and killer whale pods sighted off the coast of Shetland.
Chiara will be going into more detail during the talk and will provide an overview of what the figures and results show. The talk will be broadcast on the ERIC North East YouTube channel (link below) and Chiara will be available to answer any questions you may have in the comments section.
Excitingly, the dates of next year’s National Whale and Dolphin Watch will also be announced, so be sure to tune in to hear more about that!
