Sea Watch condemns the irresponsible action which led to the death of a bottlenose dolphin mown down by a powerboat in the Camel estuary off Cornwall at the weekend. It urges all leisure boat owners to read and abide by the Marine Code of Conduct which limits speed around marine mammals and the number of boats within one kilometre of dolphins to two. Sea Watch urges Marina Operators to make sure those using their marinas are aware of the code. All Sea Watch Recommended Boat Operators are WiSE Accredited or have specific training to provide environmentally responsible wildlife watching boat trips. Sea Watch urges local coastal authorities to consider implementing specific additional codes of conduct, such as those operating in Cardigan Bay, in areas of high leisure boat use.
